Instagram was flooded with celebrity Mother’s Day tributes on Sunday, May 13. But Gwyneth Paltrow’s stood out from the pack. The actress, 45, posted a nude photo taken just before her now 14-year-old daughter Apple was born.
In the picture, taken in 2004, Paltrow, then 31, covers her breasts with her hands as she gazes down at her bump.
“Fourteen years on the verge of a life changing morning . . .,” began the Oscar winner in her caption. “To all of us, biological, adoptive, foster, spiritual, communal, all the den mothers and grand mothers and great grandmothers and great great grandmothers, all the way back, happy Mother’s Day.”
The Avengers: Infinity War star shares Apple and Moses, 12, with ex-husband Chris Martin. Paltrow and the Coldplay frontman, 41, announced the end of their 10-year marriage in March 2014 with the now infamous phrase “conscious uncoupling.” Both have moved on — she is engaged to producer Brad Falchuk and he is dating Dakota Johnson — but they remain committed to peacefully coparenting.
“I wanted to turn my divorce into a positive,” the Oscar winner told The EDIT in 2017. “What if I didn’t blame the other person for anything, and held myself 100 percent accountable? What if I checked my own s—t at the door and put my children first? And reminded myself about the things about my ex-husband that I love and fostered the friendship?”
As for Apple, who is celebrating her 14th birthday on Monday, May 14, Paltrow gushed to Today in 2017 that “she’s pretty great.” Although sometimes, she’s a typical teen. “She’s like, ‘Can you close my door?’ and I’m like, ‘Wait. With me on the other side?!’” she quipped. “But other than that, it’s pretty smooth so far.”
