Closest cousins ever! Twin sisters Sarah Mariuz and Leah Rodgers each gave birth to their first child on Thursday, June 30, at the exact same time, according to Today.
Rodgers welcomed a baby boy, Reid Joseph, at 1:18 a.m. local time in Denver, Colorado, and Mariuz gave birth to a baby girl, Samantha Lynne, at 1:18 a.m. in La Jolla, California.
“We’ve always lived in separate places, but all of us — we have two sisters — are very close in age and very close,” Rodgers told Today. “But certainly there’s another connection at the twin level.”
The new moms, 35, discovered they were pregnant around the same time and each planned to tell the other when they celebrated Thanksgiving together.
“She showed up to my front door and I welcomed her and [her husband] Nick inside,” Rodgers said. “And I had this crazy twin intuition — I call it my ‘twin tuition’ — and I knew she was pregnant too.”
Rodgers, who is older by 11 minutes, broke the big news first to her twin, but Mariuz didn’t reveal her pregnancy news right away to give her sister her special moment.
“I wanted Leah to have her moment of sharing her news, rather than me just saying, ‘Me too!’” Mariuz told Today.
Eventually, after learning their due dates were only four days apart, Mariuz couldn’t contain her excitement. “I ran down the hallway and got the ultrasound pic out of my purse and slapped it down next to Leah’s. We were jumping up and down, just so happy for each other. Everyone was just in shock,” she recalled.
The sisters said they never planned to have kids at the same exact time so the coincidence was even crazier. Both moms and babies are doing well, and the women can’t wait to introduce their newest additions to each other. They told Today they are definitely planning to spend Christmas together and let the cousins meet.
