For Jillian Michaels, packing her kids’ lunch is a natural selection. “We have an orchard on our L.A. property, so if they’ve grown it, they’ll eat it,” the Just Jillian star, 42, tells Us Weekly of kids Lukensia, 5, and Phoenix, 3. “I’ll put in a garden peach or tangerine.” Michaels, engaged to yoga instructor Heidi Rhoades, 35, unpacks Lukensia’s Frozen-themed luncbox.
Small Bites
“She just likes snacks. Crackers and popcorn, cheese sticks and beef jerky! She and her brother are not into the concept of a meal.”
Protect and Preserve
“We’ll give her apple slices in Bumkins reusable snack bags. They’ve got a nontoxic lining inside. We do what we think is good for the planet.”
Bottle It Up
“I’ll send her off with alkaline water so she’ll stay hydrated. The school provides these stainless-steel canteens with their names on them. But when Lukensia has her way, she carries a Doc McStuffins thermos.”
Getting Animated
“Heidi packs little Zak Designs spoons and forks with Dora the Explorer characters on them.”
Message Received
“We’ll always leave her notes on a napkin. Normally I’ll draw a picture because that’s easier than having her decode a three- or four-letter word. Or I’ll leave a little kiss mark with some lip gloss.”
What else does Michaels sometimes pack in her little girl’s lunchbox? Organic seaweed snacks, snap pea crisps, watermelon, grass-fed meatballs with tomato sauce, sushi avocado rolls from Whole Foods, edamame snack packs, Paul Newman’s organic cookies, organic Justin’s peanut butter cup and Popchips.
