A visit from big brother! Prince William stepped away from his wife Kate Middleton and brand-new baby girl, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, at about 4:00 p.m. local time in London to pick up his son Prince George.
The 32-year-old father of a new princess walked out of the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital at 3:53 p.m., grinning in a blue V-neck sweater over a collared shirt.
He waved to the revelers outside of the hospital and told members of the press that he is “very happy” about his new arrival. He added “I’m just going to pick up George,” before jumping into a Range Rover bound for Kensington Palace.
An official statement from the palace explained that the Duke was leaving “to go and visit his son, Prince George at Kensington Palace.” The little boy, 21 months, will soon be meeting his little sister, who remained in the hospital with the Duchess, 33.
Prince William returned to the hospital with Prince George in tow at 4:14 p.m. local time. The Duke picked up his son in his arms, who was smiling and waving at members of the press and fans, and walked into the Lindo wing.
The visit from the big brother is a tradition that Prince William himself participated in as a little boy. In September 1984, a 2-year-old Prince William met his newborn baby brother Prince Harry at the same Lindo Wing. The little tot held the hand of his father Prince Charles, to pay a visit to the baby and his mother, the late Princess Diana.
As Us Weekly previously reported, Middleton and William arrived at St. Mary’s in the early hours of Saturday, May 2, and welcomed a little girl. The baby, whose name is yet to be announced, weighs 8 pounds 3 ounces and is “doing well,” according to Kensington Palace.
Prince George left the hospital about one hour after his arrival, while the Duke and Duchess will head back to Kensington Palace with their daughter this evening.
