Sleeping is a luxury for new dad Ryan Reynolds! The hunky actor opened up to several outlets on Monday, Feb. 2, about being a first-time dad to his 1-month-old baby daughter with his wife Blake Lively, admitting that it wasn’t easy.
“It is challenging,” Reynolds, 38, told Extra. “You are operating on a week’s worth of sleep amortized over six months. You don’t get a lot of sleep.”
The Voices star added to USA Today: “I don’t sleep very much. It’s great. It’s wonderful. But my brain is elsewhere.”
“It’s still so new that it’s hard to conceive being away for more than seven hours at a time,” Reynolds told the paper of fatherhood. “I had to go to Sundance this last week. I was more excited to get a good night’s sleep. It was borderline pornographic for me.”
Despite the lack of nighttime snooze, Reynolds said he’s perpetually happy. “It’s amazing,” he gushed of fatherhood to Extra. “It’s weird to wake up in the middle of the night 45 times and always be in a good mood, in place of that. I’m not used to that, so that’s fun.”
Us Weekly confirmed last month that Reynolds and Lively, 27, had welcomed their first child just before the New Year. “The baby came early,” a source told Us at the time, “but everyone is happy and healthy.”
Reynolds added to USA Today on Monday that contrary to Internet rumors, his baby girl is not named Violet. “No that’s not the name,” he claimed. “I don’t want to get into that but I don’t know where that came from.”
While the child’s name still remains unknown, one thing is certain: The tot apparently takes after her gorgeous celebrity parents! Lively’s Gossip Girl costar Jessica Szohr opened up to Us about the little one last month at a TCA panel for her show Complications.
“I have seen pictures. And of course, I didn’t expect anything else — beautiful!” Szohr told Us. “Blake has a very motherly tone to her. Even when we were on set. She’s gonna be a great mom. I have no doubt.”
