Every Sunday morning, Alexis Ohanian can be found in the kitchen whipping up pancakes and eggs for his wife, Serena Williams, and their 10-month-old daughter, Alexis Olympia.
“It’s something my dad did for me when I was a kid, and it’s something I really enjoy,” Ohanian told Us Weekly at a 1850 Brand Coffee pop-up event in New York City on Wednesday, July 24. “It’s this little ritual, this little routine.”
While Olympia nibbles on dad’s cuisine, Ohanian and the tennis legend, 36, play catch-up. “It’s a way for us to kind of do an inventory on the week and talk about what happened,” the 1850 Brand Coffee ambassador explained. “It’s just pure unadulterated family time.”
Though the Reddit cofounder joked that Olympia “isn’t much of a conversationalist yet” he noted that the infant is starting to walk. “She’s toddling around a little bit,” raved Ohanian. “It’s like a Pokemon that is evolving every week, and there’s always something new that we’re learning or seeing.”
He continued: “Every week it feels like there is a milestone. You’re seeing features get added to this amazing living creature that didn’t exist before. And you’re seeing a personality start to form and you’re seeing creativity and expressions.”
The tech entrepreneur, who cofounded venture capital firm Initialized Capital, said sometimes he has to experience special moments via his phone. “I’ll get a text of a photo or a video of some new little and it’s just great,” he told Us. “It’s frustrating because you can’t always experience them in realtime with her, but it’s still exhilarating.”
Ohanian and Williams, who tied the in November 2017, are relationship role models to many. In February, he welcomed the 23-time Grand Slam champion back to the tennis court with four billboards that read, “Greatest momma of all time. G.M.O.A.T.” And when Williams lost the Wimbledon title to Angelique Kerber earlier this month, he shared a tribute that had the internet in tears.
“Days after our baby girl was born, I kissed my wife goodbye before surgery and neither of us knew if she would be coming back,” he wrote on Instagram. “We just wanted her to survive — 10 months later, she’s in the #Wimbledon final. Congratulations, @angiekerber. @serenawilliams will be holding a trophy again soon — she’s got the greatest one waiting at home for her. Our family knows she’ll win many more trophies, too. She’s just getting started. And I couldn’t be more proud.”
