Celebrity Dads Who Had Children Late in Life

It’s never too late for a new bundle of joy! From David Foster to Nikki Sixx, many famous fathers have welcomed children in their silver years. The composer, for example, was 69 years old when he married Katharine McPhee in London. The American Idol alum was 34 years his junior and had never had children, while Foster was the proud dad of six daughters. The Grammy winner welcomed Allison in 1970. The Canada native placed his eldest child for adoption at the time, but they reconnected later in life. After Foster wed B.J. Cook in 1972, the singer gave birth to Amy. He also shares Sara, Erin and Jordan with Rebecca Dyer. One year after his and McPhee’s ceremony, news broke that the Los Angeles native was pregnant with their first child together. The Broadway star subtly confirmed via Instagram Stories that she was expecting, saying, “Thank you, Aperol Spritz. I won’t be drinking this anytime soon, wink, wink. But, I’m very excited! Who’s coming over for an Italian-inspired cocktail?” The actress debuted her baby bump in December 2020, giving birth to son Rennie in March of the following year. “We picked Rennie because I'd actually been in labor for a while, and we didn’t have a name picked out,” McPhee said of the infant’s moniker. “We had a couple names, but my husband was on a text chain with his sisters and one of his sisters suggested an old family name. It was his great-grandfather’s name, his great-uncle’s name, so it has a long history in his family.” As for Sixx, the Mötley Crüe rocker fathered four children — Frankie-Jean, Gunner, Storm and Decker — before starting a family with his wife, Courtney Sixx. The musician gave birth to their daughter, Ruby, in July 2019 when Nikki was 60. "I’m so grateful to my Heavenly Father for blessing Nikki and me with the sweetest most angelic child of God,” the DIY expert wrote via Instagram at the time. "I never knew this kind of love existed. I am so excited to be a mommy and know Nikki will be the most wonderful daddy ever just as he has been with my four stepchildren. Robert De Niro

In May 2023, the Oscar winner, then 79, revealed that he'd recently welcomed his seventh child. De Niro delivered the news during an interview with ET Canada, correcting a reporter who asked about his "six" children. "Seven, actually," he replied. "I just had a baby."

The Godfather Part II actor became a father in 1976 when he and then-wife Diahnne Abbott welcomed son Raphael. De Niro also adopted Abbott’s daughter from a previous relationship, Drena. In 1995, the Raging Bull star and then-girlfriend Toukie Smith welcomed twins Julian and Aaron. De Niro and ex-wife Grace Hightower later welcomed son Elliot in 1998 and daughter Helen in 2011.

Randall Emmett

The director was 50 when Lala Kent gave birth to daughter Ocean in March 2021. “I definitely want to have another baby,” the Vanderpump Rules star exclusively told Us two months later. “Randall says, ‘You’re so young.’ And I’m like, ‘You’re not.’"

Alec Baldwin

The Saturday Night Live alum welcomed two babies at age 62. His wife, Hilaria Baldwin, gave birth to son Eduardo in September 2020, and they welcomed daughter Lucia via surrogate five months later. Not only do the couple also share Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo and Romeo, but Alec previously welcomed daughter Ireland with ex-wife Kim Basinger in 1995.

Nikki Sixx

The Motley Crüe rocker welcomed his fifth child — his first with his wife, Courtney Sixx — in July 2019 when he was 60 years old. “A spunky little girl with a full head of hair making her the 5th Sixx joining her two sisters and two brothers,” the musician wrote on Instagram at the time. “Fatherhood has been the greatest joy in my life.....and @how2girl is a real natural as a mom.”

Andy Cohen

Cohen announced in December 2018 that he was expecting his first child via surrogate at 50 years old. “Family means everything to me and having one of my own is something I’ve wanted in my heart for my entire life and though it has taken me longer than most to get there, I cannot wait for what I envision will be the most rewarding chapter yet,” he said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen at the time.

Mick Jagger

Jagger and Hamrick's son, Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger, born December 8, 2016, joins the Rolling Stones frontman's sizable brood. Jagger, who has been dating the dancer for two years, is already dad of Karis, with ex Marsha Hunt; daughter Jade with ex-wife Bianca Jagger; daughters Elizabeth and Georgia May and sons James and Gabriel with ex Jerry Hall; and son Lucas with ex Luciana Gimenez. The rocker also has three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mick isn’t the only Rolling Stone with a new heir on his hands. In May 2016, guitarist Ronnie Wood, then 68, welcomed twins Alice Rose and Gracie Jane with wife Sally Humphreys, who is 31 years his junior.

The rocker has four other children — Jamie, Jesse, Leah and Tyrone — from his previous marriages to Krissy Findlay, who died in 2005, and Jo Karslake.

Rod Stewart

Rocker Stewart fathered his eighth child, Aiden, with wife Penny Lancaster in 2011 when he was 66. Lancaster was 39 at the time. It was the second child for the couple, who also had Alastair five years before.

The "Maggie May" singer has six children from previous relationships: Kimberly, Sean, Ruby, Renee, Liam, plus another child who was born in 1964 and placed for adoption.
