Desiree Hartsock, who is expecting a boy with husband Chris Siegfried in October, had no problem handing over the reins when it came to designing her baby's nursery. 

The former Bachelorette and her mortgage broker husband, both 30, enlisted East Coast Creative's Monica Mangin to design the 8x10-foot space in secret. 

"I just sent her my Pinterest board with a lot of neutrals," Hartsock tells Us. "No characters or cartoons. That's not us. We really wanted it to feel like us."

When the Seattle couple finally got to lay eyes on the transformed room after the two-day remodel, waterworks ensued.

"It just hit me," says the bridal stylist. "This is where our baby is going to be!"

Room to Grow

Mangin channeled the couple's love of the outdoors by filling tiles from a Lowe's garden section with succulents and mounting them on the wall.

"They just need misting once a week," Mangin tells Us. "Bringing plants into a space is such a great way to add life without adding tons of clutter."

Mismatched furniture from ATGStores.com (for instance, a $342 Dorel Living crib and a $789 Stanley Furniture bureau) brings "style and personality" to the room, Mangin says. 

Desiree's favorite element: sliding barn door–esque shutters made from wood paneling!

A hand-calligraphed accent wall penned by Manayunk Calligraphy holds quotes from Winnie the Pooh and Where the Wild Things Are. Explains Mangin, "The theme is, 'You're going to be amazing, little one.'"

Rather than going the traditional route with an "overstuffed" rocking chair, Mangin chose a rattan chair and ottoman for the 8x10-foot space.

"It's exciting to have a nursery to raise our little boy in," says Desiree. "We're hoping for an adventurous little boy."

"I've had a really uneventful pregnancy," Desiree, who is in her third trimester, tells Us. "It's been going really well." 

Desiree says she works out once a week and does prenatal yoga to keep her figure intact. 

Chris, who she says has been "super supportive" throughout the pregnancy, helps her tie her shoes!

Looking Forward

Because most of the couple's friends are already parents, Desiree says "it's nice to have a built-in support system" close by. 

"The best advice I've gotten is to just follow your heart and intuition," says the mom-to-be. "It's your child and you'll know exactly what to do."
