19 Kids and Counting! A Comprehensive Guide to the Duggar Family

Big brood! When it comes to the Duggars, the more members, the merrier — which is why some fans have a hard time keeping track of the famous family. After tying the knot in July 1984, Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar (née Ruark) welcomed a total of 19 children, including two sets of twins, and the couple bestowed all of their little ones with J-monikers. Joshua Duggar was the first to arrive in 1988, and Josie capped the group of kids in 2009. Although Michelle announced that she was expecting her 20th child in November 2011, she revealed the next month that she had suffered a miscarriage. In 2016, the reality stars shared marriage advice after more than three decades together. Their No. 1 piece of advice? “Individually pursue a close relationship with Jesus,” the couple wrote at the time. “The closer we each get to God, the closer we each get to each other.” Michelle reflected on her lasting marriage to Jim Bob in August 2020. “I really know that our relationship with God and our close walk with Christ is what holds our marriage together,” she exclusively told Us Weekly. “That’s the glue that started our relationship years ago. He is the man that stands strong and is solid, and then he’s steady. And I’m so grateful that God brought us together 36 years ago. And he’s given us these precious children and we love every one of them.” The Love That Multiplies authors hit television screens in 2008 when 17 Kids and Counting aired on TLC. As the couple welcomed more children, the reality show was renamed 18 Kids and Counting and 19 Kids and Counting before its 2015 cancellation. That same year, many members of the Duggar family appeared in the spinoff show Jill and Jessa: Counting On, later renamed Counting On. From courtships and engagements to pregnancy announcements and births, the show followed Jinger Duggar, Jessa Duggar and more as they start families of their own. However, the spinoff was canceled in June 2021 after 11 seasons. As if it wasn’t tough enough for TLC viewers to keep track of Joshua, Jana, John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johanna, Jennifer, Jordyn and Josie’s major milestones, many of the Duggar kids now have children of their own. Joshua and Anna Duggar

The firstborn Duggar arrived in 1988. Josh married Anna in 2008, and they share six children: Mackynzie, Michael, Marcus, Meredith, Mason and Maryella. The couple announced in April 2021 that they are expecting their seventh child, a baby girl. Days later, Josh was arrested in Arkansas. He pleaded not guilty to receiving and possessing child pornography at the time. Madyson Lily arrived in October and Anna shared the news via Instagram the following month.

Michelle and Jim Bob welcomed their first daughter in 1990.

John-David and Abbie Duggar

Jana arrived with twin brother, John-David. He married Abbie in 2018. Eight months after their nuptials, the pair announced that they were expecting their first child, a baby girl. "I just hope she's as pretty as her mommy," the dad-to-be said in TLC's August 2019 reveal video. "I know she will be."

The couple welcomed Grace Annette in January 2020, telling Us exclusively at the time: “Our lives have changed forever with the arrival of our baby girl. She’s is a beautiful gift from God. We are so blessed the Lord has given her to us. It’s still surreal to know that we are really parents but it’s a great new adventure that we are excited to take on together.”

John-David and Abbie welcomed baby No. 2, a baby boy named Charlie, in September 2022.

Jill and Derick Dillard

The Duggar daughter, born in 1991, married Derick in 2014. They share sons Israel and Samuel. In October 2021, the pair revealed that they had suffered a miscarriage, writing via Instagram: "We love and miss you River Bliss!” Four months after their pregnancy loss, the Counting On alums wrote in a blog post that their “rainbow baby [is] due July 2022.” They welcomed son Frederick "Freddy" Michael on July 7, 2022.

Jessa and Ben Seewald

Jessa joined the Duggar family in 1992. She and Ben tied the knot in 2014 and welcomed son Spurgeon one year later. He became a big brother in 2017 when Henry arrived. The Counting On star gave birth to daughter Ivy Jane in May 2019. Us confirmed in February 2021 that Jessa was pregnant with her fourth child after previously suffering a miscarriage. Their daughter Fern arrived five months later.

Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo

Jinger, born in 1993, married the former professional soccer player in 2016. Their daughter Felicity was born in 2018. The couple announced in May 2020 that their second child was on the way. Evangeline arrived in November 2020.

Joe and Kendra Duggar

The Duggar son was born in 1995. He married Kendra in 2017, and they welcomed a honeymoon baby, Garrett, the next year. Kendra revealed in April 2019 that she was pregnant with their second child. Addison Renee arrived in November 2019. Nine months later, the couple announced Kendra’s third pregnancy. The couple were expecting a "tie-breaker" second daughter, they told E! News in November 2020. Brooklyn arrived in February 2021.

Josiah and Lauren Duggar

Josiah arrived in 1996. Eight months after marrying Lauren in 2018, he announced that she had suffered a miscarriage. In May 2019, they revealed they had a rainbow baby on the way. Bella Milagro arrived on November 8, 2019, her name meaning “beautiful miracle.”

The following week, the couple told Us exclusively: “She has already brought so much joy in our lives. We are obsessed with her adorable smiles. It’s hard to imagine life without her!”

Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth

Born in 1997, Joy-Anna married Austin in 2017. Their son, Gideon, was born the following year. In April 2019, they announced they were expecting their second little one.

Three months later, Joy-Anna and Austin revealed that the pregnant star had suffered a miscarriage. The pair named their unborn daughter Annabell Elise. The couple announced in March 2020 that they were expecting a baby girl. She arrived five months later, and the couple announced her name, Evelyn Mae, the following week. In October 2022, Joy-Anna revealed she's pregnant and expecting baby No. 3.

Jedidiah Duggar

Born in 1998, Jed married Katey Nakatsu in April 2021. The couple made headlines with their pregnancy announcement five months later, with some deeming it "insensitive."

“She tested positive, but not for Covid. 😉," Jed wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of him and his wife holding a sign that read, “And then there were 3. Baby Duggar Spring ’22.”

In May 2022, the duo announced the birth of their son, Truett Oliver, nicknamed True.

Jeremiah Duggar and Hannah Wissman

Jeremiah was born in 1998 with his twin Jed. He married wife Hannah in March 2022.

“Today was a perfect day, as we stood before our family and friends and committed our lives to each other,” the newlyweds exclusively told Us on their wedding day. “It was such a beautiful culmination of so many prayers, dreams & desires! As we’ve seen God’s gracious hand in bringing our lives together, we are excited to see how He will continue to direct our paths. We are looking forward to sharing our married journey with you. Thank you for sharing our joy!”

The couple announced via social media in August 2022 that they were expecting their first child. Daughter Brynley Noelle arrived four months later.
