Fans were shocked and awed when the former couple announced on August 6 that they were splitting after eight years of marriage. “We are sad to announce we are legally separating,” the pair wrote in a joint statement. “We tried really hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake, we want to keep the situation as private as possible moving forward. We still love each other and will always cherish our time together.”
2. Selena Gomez and The Weeknd
The heart wants what it wants. Selena Gomez and The Weeknd called it quits in October after 10 months of dating. Speculation about their split started after the “Fetish” singer began hanging out with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber on several occasions. As Us Weekly exclusively reported, the two pop stars are officially dating again following her split from the “Starboy” crooner.
Another doozy! This longtime couple shocked everyone when they announced on September 14 that they were splitting after eight years of marriage. “With absolute love and respect, we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year,” the former pair, who share son Axl, 4, confirmed in a joint statement to Us Weekly. “To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.”
4. Tom D’Agostino and Luann de Lesseps
Real Housewives viewers may have seen this one coming, but so soon? Luann De Lesseps, 52, announced she and Tom D’Agostino were separating after only seven months of marriage on August 3, tweeting, “It’s with great sadness that Tom & I agreed to divorce. We care for each other very much, hope you respect our privacy during this sad time!”
5. Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga
This breakup did not end amicably. The couple announced their split after 10 years together on November 16. The pair got engaged in 2008 and are now fighting for primary custody of their son David Jr., 8.
6. Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky
The Oscar winner and the Mother! director broke up in October after one year of dating. They remain amicable and even sat together at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles the following month. Lawrence later said bad reviews for their movie caused a lot of tension in their relationship. The pair were spotted together in December, so they seem to still be friends following their split.
