Adam Shankman is on the road to recovery. The 49-year-old director has checked into rehab, his rep confirms exclusively in a statement to Us Weekly.
"Adam Shankman is currently seeking treatment in a rehabilitation center," the statement said. "His friends and family support him and wish him well on his journey to recovery."
On Sunday, Dec. 8, Shankman appeared to be in good spirits while attending the Trevor Live L.A. event in Hollywood. The Hairspray director posted a photo on Instagram of himself posing with Glee's Darren Criss, Jane Lynch and singer Adam Lambert.
Shankman's good friend and Hairspray star Zac Efron recently completed his own stint in rehab. The 26-year-old actor secretly entered rehab this past spring to deal with alcohol and cocaine problems. Efron had "been struggling with this problem for years and finally realized he needed outside help," a source told Us of the High School Musical star at the time.
