He was gonna perform a concert but then… Rapper Afroman was reportedly arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the middle of a show in Biloxi, Miss.
The "Because I Got High" performer, 40, was playing a concert at the local Kress Live venue when he got into an altercation with a fan.
Dressed in beads and rocking his trademark afro for the Fat Tuesday show, Afroman was playing guitar as a female listener approached the stage. Disturbing video from the event that is making the rounds shows the young woman edging closer to the musician and beginning to dance against him as she holds a drink in her hand.
As soon as Afroman noticed her, he swung his arm back quickly and punched the fan hard enough that she fell immediately to the ground. Seemingly unfazed by the altercation, the rapper went right back to playing and continued his set.
"This was a completely involuntary reflex reaction to people infringing on his stage space," a rep for Afroman told Billboard in a statement. "It was uncharacteristic behavior that was initiated by outside uncontrolled forces."
According to TMZ, the Grammy-nominated performer was then taken away in handcuffs by police. The local ABC and CBS affiliate WLOX reports that Afroman paid his $330 bond, and the police chief told the station that he "gave us no problem whatsoever."
The rapper himself has yet to comment on the incident. He has been touring in support of his recent "Because I Got High (Positive Remix)," which was released in support of marijuana legalization.
