Is there trouble in paradise? Based on the newly released trailer for Angelina Jolie’s film By the Sea, idyllic vacation getaways are just chock full of drama. The period piece — set in 1970s France — stars Jolie and real-life husband, Brad Pitt, in what looks to be anything but a cheery romantic date movie.

The minute-long trailer, which dropped on Thursday, Aug. 6 (the same day Us Weekly broke the news that Pitt’s ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, secretly wed fiance Justin Theroux), shows scenes of the pair as an estranged husband and wife.

In the trailer, Jolie, 40, dons oversized sunglasses and a large black hat at different points throughout the trailer as she looks out pensively over the cliffs. Pitt, 51, sounds menacing in a voiceover, and is shown brooding over a drink and with pen and paper in different scenes.

The on-screen couple even gets into physical altercations; Jolie’s character slaps Pitt’s at one point and the trailer ends with Pitt stalking out of the hotel room while Jolie lays still on the floor.

Jolie previously spoke out about the difficulties and intricacies of making the film, which she wrote and directed.

“I’d be directing myself and him in a scene where we’re having a fight, and I’d be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you’re frustrated with each other — it was very heavy,” Jolie told the Directors Guild of America in a recent interview. “We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don’t know where to stand or where to look.”

The couple — who secretly wed in August 2014 — previously costarred in 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, a film that sparked rumors of an offscreen romance while Pitt was still married to Aniston.

“I think people watch how you present yourself,” Jolie said of working on By the Sea. “If you come in and you’re there to roll up your sleeves and work hard, you’ve got a lot of ideas and you’re there to help solve problems, then you become that person to them.”

By the Sea is set to open Nov. 13.
