RHOA’s Apollo Nida Responds to Phaedra Parks’ Divorce Petition, Wants Joint Legal Custody of Their Kids

Not so fast! Although Phaedra Parks said last month that her divorce from Apollo Nida was finalized, the businessman just filed his own divorce petition Thursday, December 1, TMZ reports.

Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida attend the opening night of “A Mother’s Love” at Rialto Center for the Arts on November 22, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 38-year-old, who is currently serving eight years behind bars on fraud charges, requested joint legal custody of the couple’s two sons, Ayden, 6, and Dylan, 3, and an equitable split of their assets, according to the website, citing court documents. He lists the date of separation as June 2014, and says that their bond as husband and wife is “irretrievably broken.”

The 43-year-old attorney first filed for divorce in October 2014 after five years of marriage, but the process was delayed due to Nida’s trial and imprisonment.

As previously reported, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star told TMZ’s Raq Rants that the divorce was a done deal. When host Raquel Harper asked the Bravo star if the divorce was finalized yet, she responded, “It is.”

Parks explained that she doesn’t see a reconciliation with Nida, but won’t completely rule it out. “I never say never, but in this case, I don’t think that will be a possibility. At the end of the day, we’re friends and we have our kids together, so we’ll always be friends,” she said. “We’ll always have a relationship.”

It seems Nida may now want to sign off on the divorce documents due to his recent engagement. Two sources confirmed to Us Weekly in November that he is engaged from prison. According to an insider, the woman — who has yet to be identified — “does appear on the show later in the season at one of the cast events.” The Real Housewives of Atlanta premiered last month, so viewers may soon get a glimpse of Nida’s fiancée.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs on Bravo Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
