Big Sean reflected on his recent split from singer Ariana Grande at the 2015 BET Awards

Live and learn. Big Sean's love life has made quite a few headlines in recent years, what with his broken engagement to Naya Rivera and his romance with (and split from) Ariana Grande. But he seems determined to keep on keepin' on.

"Man, you know, I don't plan relationships," the "Blessings" rapper, 27, told Entertainment Tonight at the 2015 BET Awards on June 28. "They just happen. That's all it is. I'm just…I'm just living it…You know, we just out here doing what we doin'. Feelin' it out."

He stressed, too, that you can learn something from every relationship, regardless of how, why, or when it ends. "There's no mistakes in life, though, there's only lessons," he shared.

Grande and Big Sean first stepped out together back in August 2014. They went on to make their official red carpet debut as a couple at the 2015 Grammys in February, but split after eight months of dating in April.

"They both deeply care for each other and remain close friends," their reps told Us Weekly in an exclusive statement at the time. "We kindly ask that the media respect their wish for privacy regarding this personal matter at this time."

Following their breakup, the "Bang Bang" songstress, 22, reclaimed her independence and turned her focus back to her career, arguing that she was more than just "Sean's ex."

"I am tired of living in a world where women are mostly referred to as a man's past, present, or future PROPERTY/POSESSION," the pop phenom wrote earlier this month. "I…do not. belong. to anyone. but myself. and neither do you."

She went on to gush about her life as an artist, writing, "I have clearly not been having the boy questions in my interviews lately because I have come to the realization that I have SO. MUCH. MORE. to talk about. I'm currently making the best music I've ever made in my life, having the best time of my life on tour with some of the greatest people I've ever known, working my ass off every single day."

"I'm saying this after literally 8 years of feeling like I constantly had to have a boy by my side," Grande confessed. "After being on my own now for a few months I am realizing that that's just not the case… I have never felt more present, grounded, and satisfied. I've never laughed harder or had more fun or enjoyed my life more."
