Blake Shelton has opened up about his "very personal" duet with girlfriend Gwen Stefani and is so proud of the song, he thinks it could be his best ever!
Talking to Entertainment Tonight at The Voice's Karaoke for Charity event on Thursday, April 21, the country singer was finally ready to give fans some details about the mystery song we've all been desperate to hear about!
"We finally got a mock-up of the album, what the artwork was going to look like. And we flip it over and it has all the songs. I said, ‘You know what? Take a picture of that and tweet it,’” Shelton told the outlet, explaining how it came about that Stefani was the one to first reveal his track names online. "It'll be our way to announce that yes, we have a duet together."
And Shelton, 39, revealed that Stefani, 46, doesn't just lend her voice to the song: She actually collaborated with him in writing the track — something that was pretty new to Shelton.
“[The song] is very personal for us both because, you know, we obviously have this bond that is remarkable together,” he gushed. "The fact that we wrote a song together … I know that I don't cowrite that much because I'm very insecure about it, I guess, and Stefani’s] kind of got her circle of people that she writes with. But for us to reach out to each other as writers, it may never happen again. Who knows."
Shelton described the track, "Go Ahead and Break My Heart," as a "full-blown duet" and revealed he's totally delighted with the result.
“I hesitate to brag on it too much but I really think that it's as good of a song as I've ever written in my life,” he added.
Shelton's album If I'm Honest hits stores on May 20.
