Caitlyn Jenner is confident in her newfound skin, but there’s one part of her transition she’s insecure about — her voice. In a sneak peek of this Sunday’s I Am Cait episode, the transgender star attempts her “best feminine voice” for former stepdaughter Kim Kardashian and her pal Malika.
Jenner, 65, told Kardashian that she’s always practiced ordering room service, hoping the person on the other end would answer her with “ma’am.”
"I'd be sitting there in my little room, all by my lonesome, and I'd think, Okay! I'm going to try to get my best feminine voice and call down so they say, 'Yes, ma'am,’” she told the girls. “I could never do it."
After encouraging the E! star, formerly Bruce Jenner, to attempt her female voice, Kardashian laughs: “You sound no different!”
“I didn’t think so,” Jenner agrees before telling the camera about her insecurity.
"Women cannot relate to the whole voice thing," Jenner reveals. "They don't see it as being that important when it is that important, not only for you to speak and order and do all that kind of stuff, but very important for your soul that you're feeling good about that."
Jenner voiced her insecurities about her voice in a blog post as well following the 2015 ESPYS, where she took the stage to accept the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
"While I felt like I looked great and that the gown looked fabulous, I still have a voice issue," she wrote. "It's not quite right compared to my feminine appearance. That bothers me a little bit. However, I hope that people don't listen to the pitch of my voice, but listen to what I have to say.”
