Don’t expect any ugly breakup songs from Carrie Underwood anytime soon (unless they’re inspired by someone else). In her December cover story for Cosmopolitan magazine, the country superstar opened up about her five-year marriage to hockey player Mike Fisher.
“Everyone is getting divorced,” Underwood, 32, said in the interview. “They’re dropping like flies! But we are good.” (Since this summer Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green, Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting, and many other celebrity couples have split.)
The American Idol alum thinks that meeting her husband later in her career helped solidify their marriage.
“It helped that we were both established before we were married,” she continued. “Neither one of us could be like, ‘I didn’t know it would be like this!'”
The pair are now proud parents to their son, Isaiah, 8 months, and are able to separate their careers from their personal lives.
“When I am onstage, I am not Carrie: I am Carrie Underwood,” she told Cosmo. “Obviously, I would never run off to Vegas and get drunk and marry a guy or trash some guy’s car. But everybody has had somebody who’s cheated on them or some jerk they dated,” referring to some of her hits like “Before He Cheats,” and “Somethin’ Bad.”
And with the Country Music Association Awards set to air on Wednesday, Nov. 4, Underwood (who will be a co-host) is expected to celebrate the accomplishments of women in country music, though she noted it’s harder to get acknowledged as a female in the industry.
“When I go to vote for the Country Music Awards, I have to write in names — I can think of, like, three who are really active,” she said. “Women have to work harder to get half the recognition. I am one of the lucky ones.”
