Troubled Scandal star Columbus Short has been sentenced to 30 days behind bars for violating the terms of his probation stemming from a former assault case, TMZ reports.
The outlet revealed that at a court appearance on Wednesday, June 8, a judge sentenced the 33-year-old actor to 30 days in jai,l as well as six months in a residential drug rehab program, after drug tests showed him to be still using marijuana, with THC levels in his system elevating week by week.
Short's lawyer argued that the actor's sister had passed away from heart failure the week before, but the argument did not sway the judge, TMZ adds.
The actor, who has already served six days behind bars, was returned to custody after his hearing to complete his sentence.
It’s been a bad couple of years for Short, who exited Shonda Rhimes’ hit ABC drama in 2014 at the end of season 3. This departure came after Short was arrested in February 2014 on charges of misdemeanor spousal battery. His wife, Tanee McCall-Short, then filed for divorce. He was arrested again in March 2014 on a battery charge for fighting in a restaurant — the charge his current probation stems from.
He admitted to "struggling with drugs" during an interview with Access Hollywood Live in December 2014.
