Law & Order actor Dennis Farina has died at the age of 69 after suffering a blood clot in his lung

Dennis Farina has passed away. The Law & Order actor died Monday, July 22 at the age of 69, his publicist confirmed to The Associated Press.

According to TMZ, Farina died after suffering a blood clot in his lung.

In addition to starring as Det. Joe Fontana on Law & Order from 2004 to 2006, Farina had a role on HBO's series Luck and appeared in hit films such as Get Shorty, Snatch and Midnight Run. Before he became a actor, he served in the Chicago Police Department's burglary division for 18 years.

Farina is survived by three sons from his marriage to Patricia Farina, which ended in 1980. He has two granddaughters and four grandsons. 

Seth Meyers, Debi Mazar, Jake Johnson and other stars have tweeting their condolences. "'Anything to declare?' 'Yeah, don't go to England,'" Meyers wrote, quoting 2000's Snatch. "RIP Dennis Farina."

Farina recently made a guest appearance on Fox's New Girl to play the con-man father of Johnson's character Nick Miller. "RIP Dennis Farina," Johnson tweeted. "What a tremendous loss."
