History in the making. The United Kingdom voted to "Brexit" the European Union in a referendum result that was announced early on Friday, June 24 — resulting in a flurry of reactions from around the world.
Donald Trump, who is in the U.K., expressed his delight at the results — which saw 52 percent of the 33 million voters choosing to walk away from the E.U.
"I said this was going to happen and I think it's a great thing," he declared to the BBC. "We will see. Basically they took back their country, that's a good thing," he added.
And as markets reacted to the news, British Prime Minister David Cameron resigned, and the British pound hit its lowest level since 1985, a host of celebs jumped online to have their say.
"I don't think I've ever wanted magic more," Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling tweeted, as #Brexit topped the list of trending topics on social media. "Goodbye, UK," she added.
James Corden expressed his shock: "I can't get my head around what's happening in Britain," he tweeted. "I'm so sorry to the youth of Britain. I fear you've been let down today," he added, referencing the fact that one in four young voters were set to vote to remain in the E.U.
"How's that stronger economy and NHS looking?" blasted Lily Allen. "Well millennials. We're really really f‑‑ked. How's that stronger economy and NHS looking ?"
"Good luck with the pound,” offered Lindsay Lohan. “Will take you about 15 years to get it back up #REMAIN instead," she added.
