Chrissy Teigen, Alec Baldwin, More Celebs React to Donald Trump’s Call That the ‘Hamilton’ Cast Apologize to Mike Pence

Using their freedom of speech. Celebrities including Chrissy Teigen took to Twitter to fire back at Donald Trump after he tweeted on Saturday, November 19, that cast members of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton were being rude to Vice President–elect Mike Pence, and demanded that they apologize to his second in command.

“Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing,” the 70-year-old real estate mogul tweeted. “This should not happen! The theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!”

In a clip posted by the show’s Twitter account, actor Brandon Victor Dixon (who plays Aaron Burr in the musical) delivered an impassioned speech directed at Pence, 57, as the former governor of Indiana was about to leave the theater.

“Vice President–elect Pence, I see you’re walking out, but I hope you will hear just a few more minutes,” Dixon said. “We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our friends, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights. But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.”

In response to Trump’s angry tweet, Dixon wrote his own message, clarifying that he and the rest of the cast had done nothing wrong. “@realDonaldTrump conversation is not harassment sir,” he wrote. “And I appreciate @mike_pence for stopping to listen.”

Celebrities — including show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda — were quick to hop on social media in support of Dixon, and to hit back against the #boycotthamilton hashtag that trended on Twitter, especially outspoken model Teigen.

“Donald is sensitive enough to actually seek out a way to punish/get back at anyone who dare criticize him,” he wrote. “That’s such a sad thought. Donald knows very well what he is doing. He knows the Hamilton speech was NBD. He knows his tweet will fire both sides up to distract from the 25 million dollar settlement of yesterday. Most conniving human on planet earth.”
