Dr. Oz Was Big Ang’s Last Interview: I Don’t Think She ‘Knew It Was Going to Be So Soon’

A sad look back. Hours after Mob Wives star Big Ang died from cancer, Dr. Oz opened up about conducting Big Ang’s final interview, which aired on Tuesday, February 16.

“I don’t think Big Ang knew it was going to be so soon,” Mehmet Oz, 55, told Extra. “But I think Big Ang was scared.”

As previously reported, Big Ang was diagnosed with throat cancer last March. She passed away at age 55 at 3:01 a.m. at a New York City hospital after battling stage IV lung and brain cancer on Thursday.

“She didn’t want anybody to forget the anguish on her face when she acknowledged that cigarettes killed her, stripped her life from her, that she lost decades that she could have spent with people she loved. I think that’s the number one thing that needs to get out about her legacy,” Dr. Oz explained to Extra.

“The second part of her message was about her family, how dear they were to her, and in the darkest times you appreciate the people that love you the most,” he continued. “It’s also when you make your bravest decisions, like her decision to leave her husband. He wasn’t there for her, she thought she was taking care of him all the time and this was a time she needed to take care of herself.”

During the interview, Big Ang told Dr. Oz that she often felt “depressed” during her health battle. She tried her best to cope with the diagnosis by spending time with family.

“I stay positive. I try to stay positive. I look at my kids and my grandchildren and I know how much they need me,” she said at the time. “My kids, my daughter lives with me with her kids and her husband so I’m very close to my grandchildren. My son’s kids always sleep over.”

Her estranged husband, however, was out of the picture leading up to her death. The reality star left Neil Murphy during her health battle because, she said, he didn’t fully support her.

“I felt he never stepped up to the plate, so I was done with it. I feel now it’s too late. ‘Bye, I’d rather be by myself,'” she said. “I’ve been taking care of everything since I been married to him. I don’t need it. So I’d rather be alone. And I’ve — that’s what I did.”
