Erykah Badu threw some major shade at Iggy Azalea during the 2015 Soul Train Awards on Sunday, Nov. 29 — and Twitter went crazy!
In her opening monologue, having arrived on stage at Las Vegas’ Orleans Arena via hoverboard, Badu made a quick quip about her reputation as a rhyme killer.
“As you know, I am the queen of neo soul and people say I have this common effect on rappers: that I make them change gods and wear crochet hats, shoulder pads,” Badu, 44, said. “So they have banned me from all of the hip-hop awards with a sign saying ‘Erykah Badu, leave our rappers alone.’”
Badu then took her joke further — this time at Iggy Azalea’s expense. In the bit, meant to emphasize the fact that rap was “banned” from the Soul Train Awards, which are devoted to honoring R&B, Badu took a phone call, supposedly from the Australian rap star.
“Who is this? Iggy Azalea? Yeah, hey! No, no, no, no, no, no, no! You can come,” Badu yelled into her phone. “Because what you’re doing is definitely not rap.”
It wasn’t just the audience who went wild at Badu’s blatant diss, the Internet did too! Check out some of the best reactions below.
