What scandal? Gabrielle Union is still on a high from her engagement to fiance Dwyane Wade. The 41-year-old actress was all smiles as she braved her first interview since news surfaced that her NBA player beau fathered a child while the couple was on a break.
Though Union made no mention of the incident, she did reveal how Wade, 31, proposed to her during the holidays — and how sons Zaire, 11, and Zion, 6, helped their famous dad. (Wade was married to the boy's mom Siohvaughn Wade from 2002 to 2010.)
"I was completely surprised. Him and the boys planned it completely, as a family," Union told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan on Live with Kelly and Michael on Jan. 7. "We were just gonna spend the day together, having a little quality time, went to brunch, I'm clueless."
After grabbing a bite to eat, the group then headed home, and the boys proceeded to announce they wanted to do a presentation. "They like to do skits and songs and stuff, so we turn around, and they're like, 'Okay, we're ready!' and I turn back around and all the boys were holding up signs that said, 'Will you marry us?'"
But Union wasn't buying it.
"The thing is, they ask me all the time, so I'm thinking, 'well this is embarrassing, now they've made signs,'" she explained. "I turn to D like, 'ugh, they just made some signs,' and he's down on one knee — and he's like, 'Will you marry us?' And I was like, 'Oh, you're serious!'"
Union and the Miami Heat guard announced their engagement on Dec. 20 in an Instagram photo. "Sooooo this happened…#Yessss," the Think Like a Man Too actress wrote, along with a photo of her stunning Jason of Beverly Hills diamond ring. Ten days later, Wade confirmed he fathered a child, born a month ago, while the two were on a break.
"I had a time, a part in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son that was born healthy," he said during a press conference, via Sun Sentinel. "So I'm moving on."
Indeed, Union seems to be as well. The star went on to gush about Wade's two boys and how excited they were to hear that she said 'yes' to their dad's sweet proposal.
