After hours of primping, prepping and priming, Hollywood’s hottest stars brought their best faces forward on the 2014 Golden Globes red carpet. Deep red lips, bold brows and boho chic updos were among the six distinct beauty trends seen on celebs outside the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, Jan. 12. 1. Sleek Side-Parted Blunt Bobs
Naomi Watts and Reese Witherspoon got this sleek and chic look right! Along with her white gold Tom Ford gown, Liev Schreiber‘s love looked lovely with her fresh, blunt haircut on the red carpet. Meanwhile, Witherspoon tucked her neat, newly-trimmed blonde tresses — crafted by celebrity hair colorist Lorri Goddard — behind her ear for a clean beauty look.
2. Deep Red Lips
Rocking red! 12 years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o not only stole the spotlight on the red carpet in a red silk Ralph Lauren Collection gown, but her brilliant red lip color helped secure the newcomer’s status as a beauty trendsetter. Other stars to sport the hue included fun lover Jennifer Lawrence, who wore Rouge Dior Lipstick in in Prune Daisy, and Taylor Swift.
Cate Blanchett‘s makeup artist Jeanine Lobell achieved her perfect red shade by layering Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in Boudoir (a nude rose) over Scarlatto (a raspberry rose color).
3. Bold Brows
Arch angels! Celebrity makeup artist Tracey Levy helped Mila Kunis pull off the bold brow look at Sunday’s awards show. “I pictured Bianca Jagger going to Studio 54 after a posh society get together,” Levy said of her inspiration for the presenter’s overall Globes look. Levy used Giorgio Armani and Lancome products like Color Design Infinite 24HR in Timeless Taupe and Hypnose Drama Waterproof Mascara to call attention to Kunis’ expressive eyes. Other stars who did bold brows well on the red carpet included Sofia Vergara and Lizzy Caplan.
4. Blue Lids
Three young stars brought a bright pop of blue color to their lids as an added beauty supplement Sunday night. Girls actress Allison Williams paired her striped Alexander McQueen gown with a jewel-toned smoky eye for deeper dimension, while celebrity makeup artist Coleen Campbell-Olwell added intensity to House of Cards hottie Kate Mara‘s face with a mixed navy and gray shadow. Campbell-Olwell also used Antonym’s Certified Natural Eye Pencil in Noir along the waterline and blended it out to create a smokey effect. Newlywed Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco also looked pretty in a pale, shimmery blue shadow that coated both lids.
5. Boho Chic Updos
Us Weekly’s best-dressed contender Amy Adams also helmed one of the top beauty trends of the evening. The American Hustle star’s braided boho updo was created by celebrity hairstylist Laini Reeves, who used Charles Worthington Salong At-Home products to achieve the modern Grecian look.
Other stars who similarly went for the flirty and feminine hair style included Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen, who parted her hair down the center, and Gwyneth Paltrow, whose blonde tresses were tucked neatly above the nape of her neck. Paltrow’s “soft romantic undo,” which was created by celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel, was inspired by the “casual and effortless elegance of a French woman” according to the release.
6. Hair Going to Great Heights
Such great heights! Amber Heard grew at least three to four inches in height Sunday night with her dramatic hairstyle. Abergel, who also created Heard’s “soft and structured dramatic updo,” was inspired by Catherine Deneueve and achieved the look by first applying Oribe Maximista to “create the perfect foundation.” He then rough dried Heard’s hair and teased the roots to create the desired fullness.
“Once hair has the desired height, pull it back into a bun right below the crown. The key to this look is that has a light airiness to the style and feel undone,” explained the expert. Other stars who rocked the gravity-defying look at the Golden Globes included Julia Roberts and Melissa McCarthy.
