It apparently takes some time to consciously uncouple correctly. Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that she and estranged husband Chris Martin actually began their separation in 2012, two years before announcing their split in a Goop blog post in March 2014.
“Nobody knew what Chris and I had been going through,” Paltrow, 42, told Marie Claire Australia (via the Daily Mail UK.) “[We went through] a year of quiet separation.”
The Oscar winner and Martin’s relationship began to go south while Paltrow was filming Mortdecai, which recently hit theaters. At the time, she asked her costar Johnny Depp for advice.
“I didn’t say ‘Hey, this is what’s happening,’ but I did ask him mostly children-centric questions,” Paltrow explained to the mag. “Like, ‘How is it on them?’ and ‘How did you do it?'”
Paltrow and the Coldplay rocker, 37, are parents to daughter Apple, 10, and son Moses, 8. In 2012, Depp was also dealing with his own breakup with longtime partner Vanessa Paradis. The pair, who share daughter Lily-Rose, 15, and son Jack, 12, split in June 2012 after 14 years together. He recently wed Amber Heard at his West Hollywood home on Feb. 3, while a second ceremony followed in the Bahamas on Feb. 8.
Like Depp and Paradis, Paltrow and Martin have remained amicable exes. The twosome — and their children — even made it a family affair at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 8. As exclusively reported, Paltrow was spotted trying to teach Apple and Moses the difference between a “record” and an “album” while backstage.
