Same page? Justin Bieber publicly confessed his love for girlfriend Hailey Baldwin in a new GQ magazine cover story, but the 19-year-old model recently clarified that their relationship may not be as serious as the singer makes it out to be.
“We are not an exclusive couple,” she told E! News at the 2016 amfAR New York Gala on Wednesday, February 10. “He’s about to go on tour. Relationships at this age are already complicated, but I don’t really like to talk about it because it’s between me and him.”
Baldwin — whose dad is actor Stephen Baldwin — added that the duo already face the difficulty of dating in the spotlight, so she’s not looking to make the situation any more complicated than it needs to be.
“The thing is, I live a very public life and I have to keep things personal or else I have no personal life. It’s very difficult,” she said. “I am very open on social media, but that’s why I don’t like to talk about certain things. It really is my personal business. And I like to think my relationships are not between me, the person and the whole entire world. It’s hard. I don’t think people are really able to understand if they’re not in that position.”
Hailey and Bieber, 21, first went public with their romance in early January, with the “Sorry” singer sharing a photo of the pair mid-make out on his Instagram page.
As Us Weekly exclusively reported, Hailey previously demanded that her new beau commit to a monogamous relationship following rumors that he and Kourtney Kardashian were hooking up.
“She demanded he stop stringing her along,” a source told Us. “She said he would lose her if he didn’t man up and show he was serious about her.”
On Thursday, the pop star’s full GQ interview was released; in it, he called Baldwin “someone I really love” and wondered aloud about where the relationship would go.
“What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged,” he told the magazine. “It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard. … I just don’t want to hurt her.”
