Onward and upward! Halle Berry says she’s doing A-okay following her split from husband Olivier Martinez. The Extant actress broke her silence about the pair’s divorce on Thursday, Nov. 5.
“I’m doing okay, I really am,” Berry, 49, reassured Extra’s Terri Seymour at an event benefiting the domestic abuse facility Jenesse Center in L.A. “I keep pushing and I’m really happy to be here because whenever you’re going through anything in life, when you step outside yourself and focus on others, that’s always the best remedy for any situation that you’d rather not be dealing with.”
Us Weekly confirmed late last month that Berry and Martinez, 49, are ending their two-year marriage. Berry originally filed documents under the alias Hal Maria, before using her real name. Martinez later submitted his own paperwork, and cited irreconcilable differences.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce,” the estranged couple told Us in a statement on Oct. 27. “We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children’s privacy, as we go through this difficult period.”
As previously reported, Berry and the French actor were photographed smiling with their 2-year-old son, Maceo, just days before announcing their split. Maceo was attending a Halloween party at the time, but is now a bit under the weather. (Berry also is mom to daughter Nahla, 7, whom she had with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.)
“Maceo didn’t go trick-or-treating cause he has the chicken pox, Nahla was a zombie cheerleader,” Berry told Seymour. “I was a pirate and she’s like, ‘You’re a sexy pirate mommy.’ I’m like, ‘What do you know about a sexy pirate?'”
When asked if Nahla knows how strong her famous mom is, Berry, without further explanation, quipped: “Oh yeah, you should be in my house!”
While forthcoming about her kids, the Oscar-winning actress kept mum about her other ex-husbands, Eric Benet and David Justice. (Earlier this week, R&B singer Benet defended Justice after he addressed resurfaced rumors that he physically abused Berry when they were married.) Instead, she said she is looking forward — nine months, for that matter — to her 50th birthday plans.
“I want it to come and go as fast as it can,” Berry joked. “I’m going to take my five best girlfriends to a Caribbean island, we’re going to have a cleansing, we’re going to jump in the ocean butt naked and have a spiritual moment and bond and connect as women. That’s how I’m going to blow it out with my girls, with my best, closest, dearest friends. I love my womanships.”
