Hilary Duff on Dealing With Mike Comrie Split: “I Have a Good Therapist!”

Hilary Duff told Elle Canada how she handled her split from husband of three years Mike Comrie, joking: "I have a good therapist!"

Hilary Duff is all about the transparency! The Younger actress revealed to Elle Canada how she dealt with the spotlight after she and Mike Comrie announced this past January that they were separating after three years of marriage.

"I have a good therapist!" Duff, 27, told the mag with a laugh. "I’ve dealt with [attention] for such a long time. But some of the bigger struggles that came my way in the past two years—like my separation or when my parents separated—were the first times I had to deal with people knowing about something personal happening to my family."

While Duff confessed that the exposure felt "invasive" and "insensitive" at first, eventually she became numb to the fascination with her love life. The former Disney darling, instead, went for a different approach. "The best way to handle it is by just owning your s—" she said. "I’m human and this is what happened. None of us is perfect."

Though still technically separated, Duff and her estranged husband have appeared more amicable than ever. The two recently attended the Casamigos Halloween party holding hands, and Duff has hinted previously at a possible reconciliation.

"I mean, if there wasn't a chance for getting back [together], I think we would've filed for divorce," the star told The Kyle and Jackie O Show in September. In a separate interview with Us Weekly in May, Duff said they were "not in a rush for anything," adding: "So we're just trying to enjoy our lives and figure out what makes us happy and it's working for us."

Meanwhile, their priority still remains the co-parenting of their 2-year-old son Luca. "I still kind of feel like a kid. I’m a kid with a kid," she mused to Elle Canada. Duff said that her son is beginning to understand his parents' celebrity status.

"I don't tell him anything about my job, but he knows Mommy's a singer and an actress," Duff told the mag. "We have this book called Goodnight Los Angeles. It's like, 'Goodnight, movie stars and entertainers of Los Angeles!' and it shows people working on a set and having their names in lights. Mike's always telling Luca 'This is where Mommy is!' when I'm at work."
