Clinton was joined by her husband, former president Bill Clinton, daughter Chelsea Clinton and Chelsea’s husband, Marc Mezvinsky. During her speech, she acknowledged those who helped make such a historic night happen, laid out plans she has for the country and wished that her mother, Dorothy Howell Rodham, could still be alive to take part in the celebrations.

“Tonight’s victory is not about one person, it belongs to generations of women and men who struggled and sacrificed and made this moment possible,” she said. “We’re all standing under a glass ceiling right now, but don’t worry — we’re not smashing this one. Thanks to you, we’ve reached a milestone.”

Clinton didn’t leave out her competition either. She applauded Sanders, 74, for his impressive campaign and took shots at the Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump. At one point, she received huge applause when she knocked Trump’s campaign slogan.

“When he says, ‘Let’s make American great again,’ that’s code for ‘let’s take America backwards,'” she said. “Back to a time when opportunity and dignity were reserved for some, not all.”
