Like a black widow, baby. Iggy Azalea spoke with Notion magazine for a new cover story and said that despite the hardships she’s faced in the public eye, she’s not easy to break.
“I’m tough,” the “Fancy” rapper, 26, explained to the publication. “And [I] don’t like to be vulnerable even around my own mother.”
During her chat with Notion, Azalea also opened up about the harsh criticism she often receives on social media: “We can all see I get a lot more s–t than other people in the music business, that’s not even debatable. … There isn’t anything awful left I haven’t heard said about me.”
While the interview — which hits newsstands on Friday, July 15 — presumably took place before Azalea’s June 19 split from ex-fiancé Nick Young, her remarks seems more poignant given the messy demise of their relationship.
As previously reported, Azalea announced via Instagram on June 19 that she called it quits with Young, 31, after he tested her trust one too many times.
“Unfortunately although I love Nick and have tried and tried to rebuild my trust in him — it’s become apparent in the last few weeks I am unable to,” the Aussie beauty wrote. “I genuinely wish Nick the best. It’s never easy to part ways with the person you planned your entire future with, but futures can be rewritten and as of today mine is a blank page.”
Prior to Azalea’s post, a video of Young allegedly admitting to cheating on the hip-hop starlet leaked online on March 24. In the clip, the NBA player is heard bragging about a slew of sexual encounters. His teammate D’Angelo Russell — who allegedly secretly recorded their conversation — asks Young, “You was 30, she was 19? What about Amber Rose, you ain’t never tried?”
Young then replies, “No, she knows my girl.”
At the time, Azalea brushed the drama off by tweeting, “hmmm i see D Angelo Russell is trending… I actually liked his film. Thanks bro.”
When the “Team” singer, who accepted a proposal from Young in June 2015, learned that the L.A. Lakers shooting guard was having an affair and is expecting another baby with Keonna Green — his ex and the mother of their son, Nick Jr., 4 — she told fans that she was blindsided.
“This is just like a second shot to the chest,” Azalea tweeted on June 30. “And I feel like I don’t even know who the hell it is I’ve been loving all this time … People in this world are really f–ked up.”
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Green said that she is “not going to apologize for being in love” with Young.
“I would be like, ‘Nick, you cannot be sloppy. You need to be honest [with Azalea].’ He would say, ‘I don’t want to hear it.’ I don’t know what was going on in his household, but me and Nick have lots of history,” the expectant mom told Us. “It wasn’t a secret on my end. I didn’t feel guilty because I was in love with a man, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only woman.”
