Bethenny Frankel opened up during an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live on Sunday, March 22, about her failed marriage with Jason Hoppy, and her ex-husband isn’t too thrilled with her candid remarks.

Hoppy’s attorney Bernard Clair said in a statement to Us Weekly that “he and his client were more than a bit surprised and troubled over the personal and private details articulated by Ms. Frankel about the marriage and its demise, and that they were exploring their legal options.”

The move comes after Frankel, 44, who has been in a bitter divorce battle with Hoppy since splitting in 2012, seemingly told Cohen that she believes their relationship failed because she’s the breadwinner.

“The power struggle between men and women [exists],” the Real Housewives of New York City star, who recently split from her boyfriend Michael “Mac” Cerussi III, told Cohen on the Bravo talk show. “And [it is hard] when the woman is the breadwinner. I think fame, attention, and money does not bring out the best in everybody. I think that money, in many ways, is the root of all evil.”

Although she admitted that there were other factors that contributed to their failed marriage, the former talk show host also hinted there was a lack of mutual respect. “I write about mutual respect,” Frankel said, referring to her new book I Suck at Relationships So You Don’t Have To. “People should be in relationships with people that really accept them and understand them…[Jason and I] brushed [issues] under the rug,” she said. “Cracks become craters. Little things that you see in your relationships and your friendships…I feel like in our personal lives, we [women] don’t [acknowledge them]. I think men are just better about that than women.”

Frankel, did, however, attempt to remain cordial during the interview. “I don’t want to come in here and start trashing the situation,” she told Cohen when asked about the divorce. “It’s not good for anyone and it doesn’t help anyone. My daughter’s the most important one…I made an important decision to really just not dive in the mud.”

Frankel and Hoppy split in December 2012 after saying “I do” on 2010 spin-off Bethenny Getting Married. The business woman then filed for divorce in early 2013. While the exes have settled the custody portion of their divorce — they are parents to 4-year-old daughter Bryn — they are still finalizing other aspects and even still share their NYC apartment.
