TLC is planning two TV specials centered around Duggar daughters Jessa and Jill

The Duggars are coming back to TV after all. Kind of.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, the Hollywood Reporter confirmed that TLC has ordered at least two new specials focusing on Duggar daughters Jessa and Jill. The sisters are set to begin production on at least one of the specials in the near future.

The news comes just two months after TLC canceled the Duggar family’s long-running hit show 19 Kids and Counting on July 16, after Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s eldest son, Josh Duggar, admitted to inappropriately touching five young girls when he was a teenager. He has since also confessed to cheating on his wife, Anna, and is now in a rehab center in Illinois.

Both Jill and Jessa appeared in TLC’s documentary on child sexual abuse, Breaking the Ice, that premiered in August.

“They thought it was an important issue, and they showed an incredible amount of courage in sharing their story,” Nancy Daniels, TLC executive vice president and general manager, said. “With what was happening in their lives in the next few months, it felt like now is the time [for the specials], and we got going pretty quickly.”

While still untitled, the specials will focus on the girls’ lives as new wives and mothers. Jill, 24, and her husband, Derick Dillard, recently moved with their infant son to El Salvador for mission work. Jessa, 22, is expecting her first child with husband Ben Seewald.

The first of the specials has a target air date later this year.
