The divorce between Jessica Simpson's boyfriend, former NFL star Eric Johnson, and his first wife, stylist Keri Johnson, has been finalized, according to court documents obtained by UsMagazine.com.
According to papers, their five-year marriage officially ended Oct. 7.
They cited irreconcilable differences for the split; neither will receive spousal support at this time.
Johnson, 31, separated from his first wife earlier this year before he began romancing Simpson, 30.
Sources recently told Us Weekly that Simpson's pals are worried Johnson is just using the singer for the spotlight.
He "was never that successful in the NFL, but he’s always wanted the celebrity lifestyle," a source said. “I believe that Jessica is his way to get famous. He’s using her.”
And it’s working out well for him, added the insider: “She pays for most things. He doesn’t have the kind of money for first-class plane tickets or private jets.”
Johnson “doesn’t have a job, he just follows her around,” said a second insider. “Her friends do not trust him.”
Still, a Simpson source countered that Johnson “has his own money from real estate properties,” and his lawyer, Richard A. Stilz, told Us, “This has nothing to do with greed or fame. He cares a lot for Jessica and doesn’t care a hoot about her money.”
