Joe Scarborough Cuts Off Donald Trump Mid-Interview for “Just Talking” After Muslim Ban Comments on Morning Joe

It was a tense Tuesday morning on Dec. 8, when the co-hosts of Morning Joe on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, tried to speak with presidential hopeful Donald Trump about his recent controversial declaration to ban Muslims from the country.

“I’m using common sense,” Trump, 69, who called in to the show, said. “I spoke in front of thousands of people last night. Your reporters are reporting it. It was the biggest crowd they’ve ever had on the [ship the USS] Yorktown. They gave a standing ovation as soon as they heard it.” The day before, during a rally in Charleston, S.C., Trump declared, “Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”

Barely able to get in a question, Brzezinski, 48, finally asked, “I understand you’re not afraid of controversy, but what about the Muslim community, Donald . . .”

“This has nothing to do with controversy,” Trump said, cutting her off. “When I renounced illegal immigration, I took more heat than I’m taking right now. Everybody now disagrees with me in some form or another.”

But Brzezinski was not convinced, asking, “Do you believe that we need members of the Muslim-American, of the Muslim community around the world to help fight the war on terror? And perhaps, that this is incredibly counter-productive?”

“No,” Trump replied. “I think that it’s something that has to be done. I think it’s a temporary move. I’m not looking at this long term, I’m looking at it [as] temporary. We have to get our hands around a very serious problem.”

The GOP candidate went on to talk about the terrorist attacks in Paris, saying the French capital is “no longer the same city it was” following last month’s horrifying shootings and bombings. After he spoke for several minutes without interruption, co-host Scarborough, 52, finally cut him off.

“All right Donald, you’ve got to let us ask questions,” he said. “You can’t just talk. No, you’ve got to let us actually ask questions. You’re just talking.”

“No, no, Joe, I’m not just talking!” Trump shouted over him. “I’m giving you the facts.”

“Donald, Donald, Donald, Donald, you’re not going to keep talking. We will go to break if you keep talking,” Scarborough threatened.

“Go to break then, Joe,” Donald retorted.

And so they did.
