Peace be with her. Joey Feek died at her home in Indiana on Friday, March 4, surrounded by family and friends, her loving husband Rory confirmed on his blog. She was 40.
“My wife’s greatest dream came true today. She is in Heaven,” he wrote. “The cancer is gone, the pain has ceased and all her tears are dry. Joey is in the arms of her beloved brother Justin and using her pretty voice to sing for her savior.”
Joey, who was part of the country duo Joey+Rory with her husband, was first diagnosed with stage IV cervical cancer in 2014, and opted to forgo further treatment in October 2015 after it was determined that the cancer had spread and chemotherapy was ineffective.
Her loving husband documented their lives together with their 2-year-old daughter, Indiana, sharing the ups and downs of her last days via his personal blog, This Life I Live, as well as Facebook.
In November, shortly after their announcement that they had decided to cancel the remainder of their tour, Joey spoke out about being brave in the face of fear.
“I pray that one morning I just don’t wake up,” she told The Tennessean at the time. “I don’t fear anything because I’m so close to God and we’ve talked about it so many times. I know he’s close. And I know he loves me. I’m really at peace. I still believe there’s healing in prayer.”
In January, it was Rory who revealed his ailing wife’s thoughts as she neared the end of her brave battle.
“Yesterday with tears in her eyes and mine, Joey held my hand and told me that she has been having serious talks with Jesus,” Rory recounted on his blog. “She said she told him that if He’s ready to take her … she’s ready to come home.”
