Love is definitely in the air. Joey Feek and her daughter, Indiana, shared a sweet kiss in honor of Valentine’s Day in a precious photo posted to Joey+Rory’s Instagram account on Sunday, February 14.
“… happy Valentine’s Day mama,” the sweet caption reads. In the picture, the terminally ill country singer, 40, reclines in a bed next to a sunny window as she happily dotes on her toddler, who will turn 2 this week.
The quiet mother-daughter moment comes just a few days after her loving husband Rory’s blog post about his Valentine’s Day plans with his “fragile” wife.
“Our very first date was on Valentines day in 2002,” the country singer recalled on his blog, This Life I Live, on Friday, February 12. “The horse-vet clinic Joey worked for at the time, Tennessee Equine Hospital, had a Valentines get-together for their staff and she invited me to come with her. That night must’ve gone pretty well … because two months later we were engaged and two months after that, Joey and I were married.”
Rory, 49, further explained that though he wanted more than anything to share a “candle-lit” dinner with his bride, her fragile state of health — Joey was diagnosed with stage IV cervical cancer in June 2015, and entered hospice care last fall — meant they would have to take it easy that day.
“I want to take her back to where our lives first began together, and relive this beautiful journey that God has taken us on,” he wrote. “From that first song she heard me sing at the Bluebird cafe, to the last one we sang together as we stood on stage and took our final bow … to the songs that she will leave behind here on earth and the ones she will soon sing for eternity to our sweet Lord in that heavenly choir up yonder.”
In January, Rory revealed that their daughter Indiana’s smile and laugh kept Joey’s spirits afloat through tough times.
On Thursday, January 14, the doting husband shared a string of stunning images of little Indiana.
“I don’t know where Indy gets her personality from,” he mused in his post. “Joey says it’s from me. I’m not sure I believe her. But no matter … one thing is for sure, our little one has one of the most expressive little faces I’ve ever seen.”
