The true master of disguise!

Johnny Depp landed his first film in 1984 with A Nightmare on Elm Street, and since then he has been making his fans' dreams come to life with each character he takes on.

And many of those films have been with his friend/director Tim Burton and costume designer Colleen Atwood. "He really is a chameleon, and he takes on the character in the clothes," Atwood told Movie Line in 2009. "They don't ever look like costumes on him; they look real, and that really helps my job."

The 49-year-old actor does, however, look for inspiration for some of his characters. For Depp's beloved role as pirate Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean he told The Los Angeles Times, "I was reading about the 118th century pirates and thought they were kind of like rock stars. So, when I thought, 'Who is the greatest rock 'n' roll star of all time?" Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones!

And when he took on the role of Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the actor decided to imitate former President George Bush. "I imaged what [he] would be like… incredibly stoned," he told Ellen DeGeneres.

Most recently, Depp has transformed himself into the character of Tonto in The Lone Ranger, set for release on July 3.

But this won't the end of Depp's characters. "I think there are still more boxes to be ticked," he told reporters in May after playing a vampire in Dark Shadows. "But this was a big one for me."

On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Depp has been cast in Wes Anderson's next film, The Grand Budapest Hotel.
