Jon Bon Jovi has remained silent in the wake of his 19-year-old daughter Stephanie's arrest following a reported heroin overdose, but insiders tell Us Weekly the ordeal has been more than a little trying for the rocker and his family.

"This was a shock," a source tells Us. "A very sad shock."

Hamilton College student Stephanie Rose Bongiovi was arrested after midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 14, after Kirkland police responded to a call from her friend, Ian S. Grant, saying that she had overdosed on heroin and was unresponsive. Cops found her in possession of heroin, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, and charged her with three misdemeanors. The charges were reportedly dropped on Thursday, but the fallout is far from over for her family, whom another source describes as "normal" and tight-knit.

"[Stephanie] is really close with her dad," the second insider tells Us, adding that the famous father of four was always present at school events and functions. "He's a very good dad who loves his kids."

"We were shocked [to hear about what happened]," the source adds. "Stephanie is a sweetheart and so down-to-earth. She always wanted to party, but not in a way that made anyone think differently of her over any other teenager."

Stephanie is Bon Jovi's only daughter with wife Dorothea Hurley. The couple also have three sons: Jesse James, 17, Jacob Hurley, 10, and Romeo Jon, 8.

The rocker's rep had no comment on the incident.
