As always, we came for the reactions! After eight seasons of being tirelessly nominated for an Emmy, Mad Men actor Jon Hamm finally took home the honor during the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 20 — and (most!) members of the audience went wild.
Hamm, 44, hilariously climbed up onstage to accept the award from presenter (and two-time former Emmys host) Tina Fey. While most audience members were thrilled for the actor, his colleague Christina Hendricks kept her cool and politely applauded the actor from her seat.
In contrast, Hamm’s other costar Elisabeth Moss grinned and stood up to congratulate the actor on his victory at last. Moss, 33, was also seen smiling from her seat as Hamm graciously thanked his peers in his speech, as well as his dog Cora, and ex-girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt.
Cameras then again focused on Hendricks during Hamm’s speech. “The network and the studio… Lionsgate and AMC, am I saying that right?” Hamm asked the crowd as the audience laughed in response. Hendricks, 40, however, was not laughing and remained oddly stoic while her husband, Geoffrey Arend, grinned beside her.
Meanwhile, Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner told Us Weekly that Hamm’s win was a long time coming. “He deserved it,” Weiner told Us. “He should have won every year.”
Hamm also reacted to his career-defining moment. “The win was very unexpected!” the actor told Us. “I have no idea where I’m going to put the Emmy, but I’m very excited about it.”
