He was on air, of course! While Julianne Hough announced her engagement to NHL hunk Brooks Laich on Tuesday, Aug. 18, her ex-boyfriend of three years, Ryan Seacrest, was handling work-related affairs.
Moments after Hough shared the photo from her proposal, Seacrest posted a pic from his weekend, which included a stop by TOMS’ headquarters in Venice Beach, Calif., with his younger sister Meredith.
“Dropped by @toms w my sister @mereseacrest over the weekend,” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians producer wrote, alongside a snap from the siblings’ visit. In the photo, Seacrest looks happy and holds up a tiny shoe in the palm of his hand.
“(Finally found a pair of shoes in my size),” he joked. “So inspired everytime I hear what these guys are doing. Good ppl trying to make a better world.”
Around that same time of the Insta post, Seacrest was hosting his radio program, On Air With Ryan Seacrest, during which he discussed how he first started off in television. He also had a fun chat with Wilmer Valderrama about topics ranging from Demi Lovato to Ashton Kutcher‘s baby girl. Throughout the lively conversation with his listeners on Tuesday, Seacrest made no mention of his ex’s engagement.
Hough announced via Instagram that she was engaged to Laich. “We are overwhelmed with joy and excitement to share with you our recent engagement!” the Safe Haven actress, 27, shared with fans. “#fiancé #love.”
Prior to meeting Laich, Hough was in a serious relationship with Seacrest for nearly three years; The two went their separate ways in March 2013. “Honestly, their schedules were too hectic,” a source told Us Weekly at the time of the split. “It just got to be too much.”
Hough shed more insight about the split in a subsequent interview, conducted a year later. “Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right,” the DWTS star told Redbook last August. “I had one foot out because I didn’t want to get hurt. And I didn’t say what was on my mind because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. I needed to be perfect.”
Hough eventually realized that she was ready for love after going on a wellness seminar with her family. “I was seeing a couple people, but immediately [pretends to text guys], ‘You are nice, but this is going nowhere,’” she recalled of that time period. “The next day my Curve costar [Teddy Sears] introduced [Brooks and me]. It couldn’t have been a better time. We’ve been open and honest from day one.”
Seacrest, meanwhile, has dated several women since the split, including model Shayna Taylor. He is currently dating former Miss Teen USA Hilary Cruz, whom he first met this past February at his 40th birthday bash in Napa.
