Kanye West started his set at the Meadows Music & Arts Festival 30 minutes late and ended nearly an hour early due to a “family emergency” on Sunday, October 2.
The 39-year-old rapper was 45 minutes into his set at Citi Field in Queens, New York, when he abruptly walked off the stage, leaving tens of thousands of concertgoers angry and confused.
“I’m sorry, I have a family emergency. I have to stop the show,” West said seconds after starting his 2008 hit “Heartless.” He then cut the music and rushed offstage as the lights went out. Watch the unexpected concert moment in the video above.
Shortly afterward, an event organizer addressed the MC’s sudden departure, telling fans that West had already left the venue and that the festival was over.
The audience began chanting, “Bulls–t! Refund!” and started booing.
The Meadows then tweeted, “Due to an emergency, Kanye West had to end his performance early. Please get home safely.”
