Kanye West Reacts to Kylie Jenner’s Puma Deal: Yes, ‘I Was Mad for a Little Bit’

Yeezy says yes. Kanye West admitted on Wednesday, February 17, that he was upset about his sister-in-law Kylie Jenner‘s collaboration with Puma. Us Weekly exclusively revealed the teen’s seven-figure contract with the sneaker brand earlier this month, and West subsequently took to his Twitter to rant about the deal. The “Famous” rapper, 38, touched down at LAX on Wednesday after his whirlwind Yeezy Season 3 debut at New York Fashion Week, and seemed happy to see the local paps, even answering TMZ‘s questions about Jenner’s Puma collaboration and his $53 million debt.

“She already signed,” West told TMZ on Wednesday. “And I was mad for a little bit. I’m really happy for her, though.”

West previously railed against the youngest Kardashian-Jenner daughter’s partnership with the athletic wear company on February 9. In his barrage of tweets at the time, West wrote: “1000% there will never be a Kylie Puma anything. That’s on my family! 1000% Kylie is on Yeezy team!!!” and “Puma we gone give you your measly million dollars back!!! Never try to divide the family!!!” (West’s vendetta against Puma and Nike go way back from when he was first shopping his now-coveted Yeezy sneakers.)

The hip-hop star drove his point home by using Kim Kardashians’s ugly cry face emoji beside the Puma logo. Unfortunately for Yeezy, the deal had been done.

Puma released a statement this week confirming its upcoming partnership with the lip kit queen. “I am pleased and excited to be able to confirm that Puma is indeed working with Kylie Jenner,” the brand’s global marketing director Adam Petrick shared. “Kylie will be featured in the brand’s Spring/Summer women’s training campaign launching in April 2016. Kylie represents a fresh and exciting new era for fashion and we couldn’t think of a more fitting and influential female to headline this campaign for Puma.”

Meanwhile, West has the continual support of Puma rival Adidas amid his revelation that he’s $53 million in debt.

“I spent $53 million over the past 13 years chasing my dreams,” he told the cameras on Wednesday. “And I wanted to make sure that all entrepreneurs in America knew that it’s possible to go under and still make it out.”

“With my shoes, I know that I’m gonna make it a better way,” he continued at LAX. “There’s times where it was definitely really hard. There’s times were it was a struggle. There’s times where it was frustrating because if you make the Yeezys, maybe somebody will come and support you. It felt like, if you’re a dope artist, maybe someone will support you. And that didn’t happen. The only company that ever supported me was Adidas. … I just appreciate Adidas for helping me.”

West also said nothing will ever stop him from executing his ideas. “Point fingers and laugh, whatever y’all are gonna do at this story and moment in time, but y’all can look at me and feel my energy.”

West has been dominating headlines this month. On Wednesday, audio of the rapper getting upset during a private team meeting backstage at Saturday Night Live was leaked to Page Six. In it, he called Taylor Swift a “fake ass” and got mad at the SNL staff for changing his stage set at the last minute.
