Leave it to Live! to celebrate Halloween with the biggest stars of 2013 — sort of.
Show co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan observed the holiday on Thursday, Oct. 31 with costume-filled fun, dressed as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Kate Middleton with Prince George and Breaking Bad‘s Walter White, among many other pop culture icons of today. The highlight from this year’s special Halloween edition – portions of it taped in advance – was the dynamic duo’s homage to Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke‘s unforgettable, shock-inducing performance at the VMAs.
The chirpy personality made it clear on Live! Thursday: It was her day to twerk. Ripa, 43, dressed in the Bangerz singer’s skimpy bear costume and nude-hued two-piece outfit from the 2013 MTV VMAs (complete with both knots atop her head), fully embraced the controversial young artist’s memorable performance. She stuck her tongue out and danced provocatively against Strahan’s Robin Thicke, and Robin Thicker, played by show producer Art Moore.
While Miley and Robin were the biggest hits of the personalities’ whopping number of costume changes (50 according to one report), Ripa noted to the NY Post on Oct. 23 that each look was culturally relevant, take for example Kardashian and West. 6 ft. 5 in. Strahan towered over 5 ft. 3 in. Ripa, even after the fit personality had wedged her feet into platform pumps.
Another big-name couple featured on Thursday’s show was Tiger Woods and his lady Olympian Lindsey Vonn. Ripa dressed in Vonn’s ski gear and Strahan, clad in the golf pro’s recognizable look, gave the camera a fierce stare.
“I try to lock onto one thing identifiable in their appearance or personality,” Ripa noted, while her partner-in-crime said of the frequent costume changes, “You have fun with it. You gotta laugh at yourself with this job.”
The blonde beauty, whose role as Hayley Vaughan on All My Children helped launch her career, allowed her inner actress to shine in several TV show-themed costumes. In one look, Ripa channeled Breaking Bad‘s Jesse Pinkman while Strahan stood tall as Walter White in his yellow hazmat suit. Although the series ended in September, the characters clearly live on thanks to these two.
