Did someone close to Kim Kardashian help tip off the thieves? A Paris police source tells Us Weekly that there are concerns that the $10 million heist was an inside job.

“Detectives are satisfied that the robbers could have easily tricked their way into Kardashian’s apartment block, [but] it is not clear how they got into her actual flat,” the insider tells Us. “The baffling part of the inquiry is how the robbers got into the apartment. Of course it’s possible they tricked their way in, but at that time of the [early morning] it’s unclear who actually opened the door.”

The source adds that the entryway to Kardashian and husband Kanye West’s apartment in the luxury building known as the Hôtel de Portals is “armored” and “easily locked from the inside.”

“We are dealing with a young woman who was practically alone with a hugely valuable amount of jewelry,” the source continues of the investigation. “She would never open the door in the middle of the night in these circumstances, so who did if it wasn’t opened with a key? There were no signs of forced entry, but there’s also no proof that a key was used.”

As previously reported by Us Weekly, the Selfish book author, 35, was robbed at gunpoint on Monday in Paris by five men dressed as police officers. Law enforcement officials previously confirmed to Us that the men attacked a male concierge to gain access to the apartment. According to authorities, the crime was carried out by a “highly organized” gang who did a great deal of planning before the raid. (As of Tuesday, October 4, the Associated Press reported that the suspects are still at large.)

Jeanne d’Hauteserre, mayor of the eighth arrondissement of Paris, in which the apartment is situated, also tells Us that it is likely that a local gang was involved.

“There have been a number of attacks in recent times, notably of watches, and then of people attacked in their own apartments,” d’Hauteserre confirms. “Now that this is all a big news story, we hope that the famous gang or gangs will be dismantled and arrested.”

That said, detectives find the case to be “one of the strangest” they’ve worked on, the law enforcement source tells Us.

“They assumed that Kim would have been surrounded by her own private security guards, and that she would never have kept such valuable jewelry with her while sleeping alone,” the insider adds.

As previously reported, Kardashian wasn’t alone in the apartment. Her longtime friend and stylist Simone Harouche was downstairs at the time of the raid, and her bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, wasn’t present because he was accompanying her sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner while out at L’Arc nightclub.

“Kim felt safe at the apartment by herself,” another insider previously told Us of why Duvier wasn’t present. “Kim is not blaming Pascal. She felt completely safe at the Paris apartment and doesn’t believe this is his fault in any way.”
