Kris Jenner opened up to Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday, March 1, about Caitlyn Jenner‘s recent revelation that she wants to date men — and it’s a lot to process for the Kardashian family matriarch.
“The last time you were here on the show, you were here with Bruce on Valentine’s Day,” DeGeneres recalled to Kris, as the Ellen DeGeneres Show producers flashed a photo of the exes, married for 23 years, across the screen. “And now she is Caitlyn. It’s confusing because for a while she was not saying whether she was going to date women or men, and now apparently she has said that she’s going to date men.”
“I saw that, too,” replied the momager, 60, who shares daughters Kendall and Kylie with her ex. Kris added that the scenario was “confusing for sure,” but she wanted Caitlyn to be the most genuine version of herself. “I think that I really want her to be happy and be really comfortable in all the things where she says she wasn’t her true authentic self for most of her life. [She] knew when she was 4 that she felt like that. So you don’t want somebody to be miserable or in pain or anything of that.”
The former Olympian publicly addressed her transition from male to female during a special interview with Diane Sawyer last April. Several months later, Caitlyn revealed her transformation on the cover of Vanity Fair — and part of Buzz Bissinger‘s piece detailed Kris’ struggle with the reality, which she acknowledged with DeGeneres on Tuesday.
“I think for me, just getting used to that — you know I am human and I have my feelings and I try and it’s baby steps — and it’s like the mourning of somebody that you feel you are never going to really see or be with again.”
Since the ’70s, Caitlyn has been married to three women in total — Chrystie Crownover, Linda Thompson and Kris — and fathered six children (she’s also the stepparent of Kourtney, Kim, Khloé and Rob Kardashian). On the latest I Am Cait trailer, Caitlyn opens up about her sexuality during a conversation with a friend. “To be honest with you, I don’t see myself dating women in the future. I’ve been there, done that, got three ex-wives,” she says in the clip.
“That part I don’t understand,” Kris told DeGeneres. “I said to her when this first happened, ‘You are so excited. You have to wait for the rest of us to catch up, like we haven’t had as many drinks as you.’ Like, when you are at a party and every else is smashed ,and you are, like, just getting started … Anything to relate to alcohol, I guess.”
