Lamar Odom has voluntarily checked himself into rehab, Us Weekly can confirm. The former Lakers player is seeking treatment at a rehab facility near San Diego, California.

“He went to continue making sure he stays sober and on the right path,” a source exclusively tells Us of Odom’s decision. “It was something he chose to do."

According to the insider, Odom “did it for his kids” and “also wanted to feel 100 percent again. He did not relapse, but felt like he wanted to get away and start fresh for the New Year.”

Odom’s decision comes after he sought treatment last year to recover from an overdose at a legal brothel in Nevada. As previously reported, the athlete was hospitalized after being found unconscious in October 2015. After being rushed to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai, he was placed into an induced coma for more than two weeks.

“I can remember being scared half to death. … I was trapped in my body,” he recalled during last season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “I couldn't even say 'Excuse me' or 'Thank you.’ Now I'm taking it day by day."

After his overdose, his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, withdrew her divorce papers in order to oversee medical decisions and assist with his recovery. She filed again in May. Us confirmed on December 10 that their divorce is nearly finalized, three years after the couple split.
