LOL!
When Rob Lowe and Sofia Vergara announced the winner of the Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy on Sunday's show, Amy Poehler sure thought she had it in the bag.
As soon as Lowe and Vergara announced her name as a nominee, the 40-year-old Parks and Recreation star rushed the stage in an attempt to accept the trophy. Problem was, the other five nominees — and the actual winner! — had yet to be revealed.
But Poehler's other nominees — Laura Linney, Edie Falco, Melissa McCarthy, Martha Plimpton and Tina Fey — took the comic's seemingly spontaneous act in stride, and quickly joined her on stage as their names were announced.
"I just want to say, girls, that everyone is a winner and I know you're going to serve this body with distinction," Lowe joked, taking a page from the beauty pageant playbook, before announcing McCarthy as the trophy winner.
"Holy smokes! Wow, this is my first and best pageant ever. Oh my God, there's so many people I what to thank…" a visibly stunned McCarthy, outfitted with a tiara and a bouquet of roses, said before dissolving into tears as she thanked her family and coworkers. "I'm sorry I'm a crier. I'm from Plainfield, Ill. and I'm standing here and it's kind of amazing!"
Sunday's Emmy win is Mike & Molly star McCarthy's first.
