Dancing With the Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd was all smiles as she showed off her gorgeous new engagement ring at the Sway Alfalit Gala just hours after her boyfriend, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, proposed to her onstage in Miami on Saturday, Dec. 5.
The Ukranian hunk, 35, got down on one knee in front of 1,500 people following their performance of Sway: A Dance Trilogy (which featured DWTS pros as wells as former competitors Rumer Willis and Meryl Davis) and presented his girlfriend with a custom Cantamessa engagement ring that he designed for especially for her.
“I’m in love with you and I want to be in love with you for the rest of my life,” Chmerkovskiy said, according to an eyewitness. “Will you marry me?”
She said yes — and just a few hours later the glowing couple stepped out at the Sway Alfalit Gala, where Murgatroyd, 29, happily showed off her dazzling new ring.
“I can’t tell you how happy I am,” she told Us. “I was completely shocked. I’m just overwhelmed with it all right now.”
Chmerkovskiy and New Zealand native Murgatroyd first dated for 10 months in 2012 and 2013. They rekindled their romance earlier this year. Chmerkovskiy told Us exclusively that he knew “a couple of years ago” that he wanted to marry the beautiful blonde. “This was definitely the best decision I ever made.”
His brother, DWTS pro Val Chmerkovskiy, was present for the onstage proposal on Saturday and later offered his congrats to the couple in a very sweet Instagram post.
“I love the two of you with all my heart. you have my brothers loyalty, heart. his one and only for the rest of his life,” he wrote. “you’re family now and that makes you my sister, the second most important woman in my life. what’s mine is yours. Forever and always. Petachka your team got numbers now.”
